"Zohran" sound too much like "Zyklon" and that's triggering
Why are mainstream commentators of all stripes peeing their pants right now? Because they are awful, and they know it, and now they know you know it.
After Zohran Mamdami’s surprising-to-people-who-weren’t-paying-attention win in the Democratic primary for NYC mayor, I’ve seen a lot of deranged takes from all points of the political spectrum.
On the left-ish side, there’s people such as senatorial non-entity Kirsten Gillibrand, who more or less called Mamadmi a terrorist. Ben Ryan, a New York Times writer and star of the hit NBC sitcom Young Cryptkeeper, tweeted a SCOOP about how Mamdami correctly listed his own ethnicities on his college application forms. Then there’s organizations like Stop Antisemitism dot Org (you include the “dot org” in their name, similar to “A Tribe Called Quest.”) The good folx over there took a break from supporting The Most Moral Genocide of All Time to publish pieces about how Mamdami’s victory will lead to Green Point’s dance poetry cafes being converted into gas chambers. And then there’s the august representative Andy Ogles—who rose to fame due to his appearance on To Catch a Predator and looks like a spray-tanned condom packed with cocaine—attempting to get Mamdami denaturalized and deported.
This is against a background of twitter users of all stripes claiming that there’s just something… off about Mamdami. He puts out videos too quickly, they say, and those videos look too good. He seems too comfortable talking to voters on and off camera. His smile annoys or angers them. His wife is either too hot or actually she’s ugly and either way he must have purchased her from a trader who was riding camelback. Etc etc.
You get the point. People are very weirdly pissed off about this, which is even weirder because most of those people don’t live in New York City and Mamdami’s presumptive mayoralty shouldn’t affect their lives in the slightest. Unless… well, unless we consider how it will affect them as they scroll through their favorite apps and web-sites, being forced to witness his presence.
Zohrani’s victory represents an immense professional and psychological threat to the entire political establishment. And I mean the entire establishment: from politicians and the people who bribe them, to humble consumers of cable news, and even to hard-working and deeply underappreciated bloggers like myself. All of them are at risk of existential collapse, because this guy won a primary.
This isn’t just because he is under 60 years old. Nor because he’s decent looking. Nor even because he refuses to kiss Israel’s ass or wonder aloud what horrible stuff Hamas might be doing to provoke all those aid-seekers to throw themselves in front of innocent Israeli bullets. These are all bad enough, sure, but his biggest sin is also the most underremarked-upon: he actually believes things. The Blob, their media allies, and internet losers (like me) who pay way too much attention to this stuff can put up with a lot, but we absolutely cannot tolerate the thought of a world in which American politicians hold convictions.
Here I should take a second and let you know that I’m not a Zohran cheerleader. I do think he’s preferable in almost every regard when compared to Cuomo, Silwa, or Eric Adams, but I don’t agree with him 100%. To cite a few examples: I don’t like it when politicians racialize issues that could be much more effectively explained through a class-based lens. I think that left-liberal education reform efforts have gone completely off the rails in the last decade and should not be adopted at all, let alone uncritically. I think government-owned grocery stores could work, in theory, but I worry that doing them too DSA-style with a hyperfocus on identity shit will be a massive loss to everyone.
The point here isn’t that it should be surprising that I support Zohran over his competition, in spite of my reservations—those guys are repulsive pigfuckers who should all die in jail.
The surprising thing is I can actually criticize his positions, because he actually bothered to articulate them
Compare to Zohran’s many responses to slimy gotcha questions to Kamala’s inability to respond coherently to softballs. She wasn’t just an amoral careerist like Obama. She didn’t even know what she was supposed to believe. The reason voters regarded her as disingenuous is because she was, indeed, incredibly disingenuous. The Dems were able to skate by on this sort of aesthetics-over-substance non-platform when their party was run by a super charismatic guy and the country was reeling from 8 years of Busha nd Cheney. But those conditions were temporary. They’re not coming back.
In a way, I’m reminded of how much the legacy sports media freaked out when Deadspin and then Barstool began to overtake their influence. Remember when they all bragged about getting Pardon My Take’s TV show cancelled after just one episode, because Dave Portnoy—the guy who owns Barstool and does not even appear on the show—was conservative? You’d think people who work for Fox and Disney would have a little self-awareness and wouldn’t try to cancel others because their boss has some shitty opinions. But the moral outrage was just a smokescreen. Their real motivation was jealousy. And fear.
In order to rise in their professions, the old establishment did everything they were told they had to do—they abandoned all convictions, became ideological prostitutes, and didn’t complain when the johns repeatedly ejaculated into their face without giving them a tip afterward. To see a new guard become popular specifically because they didn’t go through the same dehumanization routines as themselves… that’s too much. They can’t accept that.
The simple fact is that it’s not 2020 anymore. Decades of lies and mismanagement have all but destroyed the influence of the Democrat elite and their media allies. The endorsements of the former hosts of Cum Town now matter more than those of Jim Clyburn and Bill Clinton. No one under 40 gives a fuck what the Obamas have to say about anything. The leaders of the liberal establishment can no longer send our their race and gender stooges to neutralize any threats to their power. In a way, this is the real Great Replacement—it’s just not the one they were hoping for. And since accusations of identity crimes has been the only arrow in the Democrat quiver for some time now, they’re freaking out.
